Ending Self-Criticism and Building Self-Confidence

It can be heart-breaking to see the following in your child: self-critical, easily discouraged, reluctant to try new activities, or feeling defeated before even trying something new.

If this is you and your child, OR, if your child is young and you want to prevent these, I have 2 offerings for you today.

Presentation

The first is a presentation in Victoria, BC on Nurturing the Seeds of Self-Esteem and Confidence in Children on November 14th at 7:30.

In the presentation I share some highlights from my new upcoming book and from other recent trainings I’ve attended. The presentation is kindly hosted and sponsored by Katrina Mallon of Inspirational Futures, and admission is FREE!

Article in Island Parent Magazine

Secondly, on a similar topic, did you know that saying “good job” can actually undermine your child’s confidence? I personally struggled for a long time to figure out which type of praise is detrimental and how to praise my child in a way that builds confidence. I’ve summarized my learnings in an article that’s been published in this month’s Island Parent Magazine. It’s called Praise that Cultivates Grit in Our Kids, and can be found on page 24 of the online magazine.

Happy November! If you have questions, comments or stories on the article or this topic, I’d love to hear from you below.

Warmly,

Colleen
